Important: Sometimes Outlook/Outlook Express, in conjunction with Norton Anti-Virus, has a hard time downloading some virus spam or spam that is waiting on the server which has corrupted formatting in the subject lines, bodies or attachments. The emails that are the most problem are the ones that either have blank subject lines or subject lines that contain "& n b s p ;". These emails become stuck on the server and Outlook/Outlook Express will often give-up trying to download them. The quickest way to resolve this issue is to log into the affected email account using webmail and then delete the offending emails (make sure to "Purge Deleted" after you mark the emails for deletion).
SYMPTOMS ------------------------ When you try to send and receive e-mail, you may receive one of the following error messages: The server could not be found. (Account:account name, POPserver:'mail', Error Number: 0x800ccc0d) -or- Task 'server name - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800ccc0f): 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: ? K' -or- Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. CAUSE ------------------------ This problem may occur when Norton AntiVirus 2000, Norton AntiVirus 2001, Norton AntiVirus 2002, or Norton AntiVirus 2003 is installed on your computer. You may also have run Norton's LiveUpdate and installed the Script Blocking update.
WORKAROUND ------------------------ To work around this problem, use one of the following methods appropriate for your situation: Method 1: Turn Off E-Mail Protection For Norton AntiVirus 2002 or 2003 1. Quit Outlook or Outlook Express. 2. Start Norton AntiVirus. 3. Click Options. If a menu appears after you click Options, then click Norton AntiVirus. The Norton AntiVirus Options dialog box appears. 4. In the Internet section, click Email. 5. Clear the Scan incoming email check box and the Scan outgoing email check box. 6. Click OK. 7. Close Norton AntiVirus. For Norton AntiVirus 2000 or 2001 1. Quit Outlook or Outlook Express. 2. Start Norton AntiVirus. 3. Click Options. 4. Do one of the following: In Norton AntiVirus 2001, clear the check boxes that correspond to the protected e-mail clients. In Norton AntiVirus 2000, clear the Enable email protection check box. 5. Click OK.
